It is an axiom of Zionism that Jews cannot live safely anywhere as a minority because of the inherent and dangerous, open or potential, antisemitism of nations everywhere.
This Zionist notion is inculcated into the Israeli body politic, often in a very intense form – ‘the whole world hates jews’. Such a state and society disposing of a vast nuclear arsenal is already revealed to be genocidal towards Palestinians. With the most extreme and openly genocidal elements in Israeli society constantly increasing their dominance inside the military apparatus, a great danger to all of us is incubating.
Nuclear-armed Israel and the US (supported by nuclear-armed UK and France) attack Iran for allegedly planning to develop a nuclear weapon in the future. Israel’s nuclear history is swept under the carpet, taboo, in British mainstream media.
- 1975: South African state archives opened after the fall of apartheid there revealed that in 1975 Israeli PM Shimon Peres (who later won a Nobel Peace Prize) discussed the sale of nuclear weapons to South Africa. The National Party, South Africa’s apartheid-era ruling party had many leaders with pro-Nazi sympathies until 1945, and was strongly pro-Israel.
- On 19 June 1981, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 487 calling on ‘Israel [to] urgently … place its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards.’ Subsequently ignored by Israel and all its NATO member backers.
- In 1985, Israel bombed the Osirak reactor in Iraq, killing ten Iraqi soldiers and one French civilian. Prime Minister Begin, organiser of the Deir Yasin massacre, said that ‘Every future Israeli prime minister will act, in similar circumstances, in the same way.’
- In September 1986, Israel kidnapped and forcibly injected Mordechai Vanunu from a European capital, Rome, and took him to Israel after he confirmed in the Sunday Times the existence of Israel’s nuclear arsenal. He spent 18 years in prison, eleven in solitary, a form of torture.
- In 2012, Israel rejected a plan by Arab governments that enjoyed the support of the Obama administration for a major conference in Helsinki to discuss the possibility of a nuclear-free Middle East.

During the 1973 war when Egypt tried to regain territory occupied by Israel since 1967, Israel prepared nuclear weapons for use in an easily detectable way to pressure/blackmail the United States. The US learned of the nuclear alert on the morning of 9 October. The same day, President Nixon ordered an American airlift to replace all of Israel’s military hardware losses.

Between 2010 and 2025 British ministers authorised 77 export licences to supply Israel with components for its submarines. Research institute SIPRI estimates that Israel has at least 90 nuclear warheads but that the number could reach as high as 300. From 1956 France and Norway provided israel with the heavy water needed to develop nuclear weapons. The CIA concluded by 1968 that Israel had developed nuclear weapons.

In 2009 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) called on Israel to open up its nuclear facilities to inspection and join a non-proliferation treaty. The US and Europe opposed the resolution (the UK abstained). The US and Europe mobilised repeatedly to defeat other proposals to the IAEA to open Israel’s nuclear arsenalk to IAEA inspection.
