DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, 30th August\, Scottish PSC branches nationwide will once again take action against variety store chain Home Bargains\, to oppose their continued stocking of products originating from apartheid Israel. DESCRIPTION:Join us this evening at 7pm in 22A Adelphi\, Aberdeen for the latest in our series of political education workshops\, this week on the political prisoners who have been jailed for their support for Palestine. \nIncarceration is a daily feature of Palestinian life where approximately one fifth of all Palestinians in Palestine have been imprisoned at some point. \nImprisonment under abject conditions of torture is another weapon of the apartheid occupation. \nWe will learn what this means for Palestinian solidarity and the struggle\, and explore further this through recreating the return of a prisoner.

DESCRIPTION:Don’t Bank on Apartheid\nThis Saturday we will return to Barclays to demand the bank ends its complicity in the Genocide in Gaza\, and to ask customers to close their accounts and bank elsewhere. \nBarclays Bank is facilitating and profiting from the provision of weapons and technology for Israel’s genocide in Gaza\, its militarised occupation\, apartheid\, repression\, and killing of Palestinians. \nBarclays now holds over £2 billion in shares of eight of the nine companies whose weapons\, components\, and military technology have been used in Israel’s unlawful violence against Palestinians. Barclays also provides over £6.1 billion in loans and underwriting to seven of these companies. \nWe hear that the bank has re-invested in Elbit Systems\, the Israeli company that is the primary provider of the Israeli military’s land-based equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles\, both of which are wreaking such havoc in Gaza and are responsible for the massacres of over 60\,000 people including more than 20\,000 children. This just demonstrates that BARCLAYS CARES MORE ABOUT PROFIT THAN HUMANITY.

DESCRIPTION:SPSC Residential Weekend\, Fri 31 Oct – Sun 2 Nov \nFollowing the success of our last residential weekend in February\, we are holding a bigger residential weekend this autumn for members of SPSC to gather in Stirling. \nThis will be a fantastic opportunity to meet\, learn and work together with fellow activists from across Scotland\, exchanging our ideas. \nWe will use the space and time provided by the weekend to explore a wide range of questions facing our movement\, in order to strengthen our action. His translation of Ghassan Kanafani’s The Revolution of 1936–1939 in Palestine was published by 1804 Books and won the 2024 Palestine Book Award. \nProfessor Haim Bresheeth is a filmmaker\, photographer\, and film studies scholar.\nHis books include the best-selling Introduction to the Holocaust and An Army Like No Other: How the IDF Made Israel\, published by Verso in May 2020. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Aberdeen’s inaugural Free Speech on Palestine Lecture\nIn late 2024\, the University of Aberdeen cancelled an event with Mandla Mandela on campus\, based on spurious and unfounded accusations of antisemitism. This was just a small part of a much bigger picture demonstrating that the University was doing all it could to quash voices speaking out against Israeli genocide\, apartheid and occupation. This included the targeting and disciplining of staff and students\, as well as the Palestine Solidarity Society. \nWith the planned event cancelled\, we went ahead and organised an alternative event outside\, on campus\, with around 100 people joining to hear Mandela’s empowering message of solidarity and hope. \nScottish PSC\, in partnership with the Palestine Solidarity Society\, are therefore initiating an annual Free Speech on Palestine lecture\, taking place on University grounds. We are delighted to announce that this year’s guest will be Jackie Walker\, a long-time activist and writer\, who has been targeted for her outspoken campaigning on Palestine\, both by the Labour Party and the University of Aberdeen (who cancelled her event in 2017). SUMMARY:Settler colonialism and genocide: Palestine in context
DESCRIPTION:Keir Starmer and other UK Government ministers deny that Israel’s mass killing in Gaza meets the legal threshold for genocide – or even that there is a serious risk of genocide. This denial enables the UK to continue selling weapons to Israel and allows the RAF to carry out over 500 surveillance flights over Gaza during the genocide peak\, directly assisting the killing below. \nThe International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) disagrees with Starmer and Lammy. In December 2023\, the IAGS issued a statement declaring that Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute the crime of genocide. \nAGS represents the world’s leading academic experts on genocide and mass atrocity crimes. It based its conclusion on intent\, scale of killing\, destruction of civilian life\, and statements by Israeli officials. This is the clearest and most authoritative use of the term “genocide” by an international scholarly body. \nThe Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign has been campaigning against Israeli genocide long before October 2023. The Scottish Government recently acknowledged the Israeli genocide\, following the findings of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry. He is the author of numerous major scholarly works on genocide\, including ‘The Crisis of Genocide’\, a multi-volume study comprising ‘Devastation and Annihilation’. He is Emeritus Professor of Comparative History at the University of Southampton. His book ‘The Crisis of Genocide: The European Rimlands\, 1912–1953’ received the biennial Lemkin Award from the New York-based Institute for the Study of Genocide in 2015. \n  \n\nSai Englert\n\n\nAuthor of ‘Settler Colonialism: An Introduction’ and teaches at Leiden University in the Netherlands. His work focuses on understanding settler colonialism as a global system and historical process. DESCRIPTION:Imperialism in Palestine and Community Resistance\nA Talk & Discussion with live link to Wassil Centre in Tulkarem (Simultaneous over 3 venues; Edinburgh\, Glasgow\, Aberdeen)\nSPSC and the Young Communist League present a talk and discussion on resistance\, with Palestinians living in Tulkarem joining by live link. \n\nIsraeli aggression and incursion into Tulkarem\, West Bank has intensified since 2023\, culminating in invasion in 2024. IDF brutality has escalated while the world’s attention has been on Gaza\, resulting in a desperate humanitarian situation.\n\n\nInfrastructure in the camp is insufficient to deal with the crisis. There is no hospital within or near Tulkarem camp. Volunteers\, including doctors\, nurses and ordinary residents have established make-shift first aid and rehabilitation rooms with the limited resources they can find. Upon attack\, the very first thing the IDF does is destroy these makeshift facilities and the supplies they have gathered.\n\nPalestinians in Tulkarem have not taken these attacks lying down. SUMMARY:ABERDEEN: Prisoners Day Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join this public event on Friday 17th April to mark Prisoners Day calling for the freedom of 9\,600 Palestinian political prisoners in addition to the unknown number of Gaza detainees held in military camps and torture centres run by the occupation. This includes 3\,532 ‘administrative detainees’ held without trial or charge. \nPrisoners Day has been marked annually since 1974 when prisoner Mahmoud Hijazi was released by the occupation in the first prisoner exchange between the Palestinians and ‘Israel’. It marks Palestinian resistance and the endless capacity of the Palestinians to oppose the occupation. In this vein\, we will be screening the film Palestine ’36 by Ammemarie Jacir narrating Palestinian resistance to the British Occupation. We will also hear contributions and first hand reports from former Palestinian political prisoners. \nAs ever\, Palestinian food will be served\, in keeping with Palestinian tradition.

As far-right voices try to divide our communities\, we come together to say: no to racism\, no to hate! \nFrom our streets in Aberdeen to the streets filled with rubble and blood in Gaza and across Palestine\, we stand with people who have endured displacement\, oppression\, and injustice\, yet continue to resist\, organise\, and demand their rights with courage and dignity! \nAround the world millions have risen to challenge these injustices\, marching\, speaking out\, and refusing to stay silent in the face of oppression. That same spirit is here\, in Aberdeen. \nWe march for refugees escaping desperate situations.\nWe march for our neighbours facing racism on our streets.\nWe march for those suffering daily in Palestine\, and in Lebanon\, Syria\, Congo\, Sudan\, and Iran. \nJoin the unity march this Saturday 18th April at 10:30am. \nStand with local campaigners\, trade unions\, faith groups\, and all who believe in a city that welcomes\, not excludes. DESCRIPTION:Join us this Saturday outside Barclays as we call for freedom of Palestinian prisoners\, currently being held in Israeli jails. \nWe call for the freedom for those facing administrative detention without trial\, for those who may now face the death penalty for resisting an illegal occupation\, and for those Palestinian children who face trial in a military court (the only children in the world to do so). \nWe will also remember Barclays’ long-standing commitment to apartheid\, previously in South Africa and now in Palestine. For decades\, Barclays has propped up the most racist and despotic regimes around the world\, and is now responsible for bankrolling destruction and genocide in Gaza. Barclays was the friend of Vorster and Botha\, and is now the friend of Netanyahu\, Palantir and Epstein. \nSay no to occupation\, apartheid\, and the complicity of businesses on our streets. \nFree all political prisoners.
