SUMMARY:ABERDEEN: Free Speech on Palestine Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Aberdeen’s inaugural Free Speech on Palestine Lecture\nIn late 2024\, the University of Aberdeen cancelled an event with Mandla Mandela on campus\, based on spurious and unfounded accusations of antisemitism. This was just a small part of a much bigger picture demonstrating that the University was doing all it could to quash voices speaking out against Israeli genocide\, apartheid and occupation. This included the targeting and disciplining of staff and students\, as well as the Palestine Solidarity Society. \nWith the planned event cancelled\, we went ahead and organised an alternative event outside\, on campus\, with around 100 people joining to hear Mandela’s empowering message of solidarity and hope. \nScottish PSC\, in partnership with the Palestine Solidarity Society\, are therefore initiating an annual Free Speech on Palestine lecture\, taking place on University grounds. We are delighted to announce that this year’s guest will be Jackie Walker\, a long-time activist and writer\, who has been targeted for her outspoken campaigning on Palestine\, both by the Labour Party and the University of Aberdeen (who cancelled her event in 2017). This means it helps Israel directly to raise money to fund its genocide and apartheid against Palestinians. \nThe Palestinian BDS National Committee is calling on concerned people to boycott all Barclays services as well as for all financial institutions to divest from Barclays until the bank ends its grave complicity in Israel’s attacks on Palestinians\, \nJoin us for our bi-weekly (Wed & Sat) demonstrations at Barclays Bank on Princes Street (next to Apple store).

DESCRIPTION:All welcome\nCome along the Mid Argyll Youth Development Services – MAYDS – building for 6.30pm to watch the documentary film Jenin Jenin\, and stay for tea and discussion after the film. \n\nMarch 2002: The Israeli troops have marched into the Palestinian refugee camp of Jenin\, razing the largest part of the camp to the ground and killing scores of civilians. Israel has been accused of committing war crimes\, prompting the United Nations to assign an independent commission to visit the camp. But Israel has forbidden it.\n\n\nDirector Mohammed Bakri visits the demolished camp and interviews survivors of all ages. Jenin\, Jenin is dedicated to the memory of Iyad Samudi\, the film’s executive producer\, who was shot and killed after the production of the film was wrapped.\n\n\nLong banned by the Israeli Film Board\, Mohammad Bakri’s poignant documentary remains a powerful statement on the plight of the Palestinians in their continuous quest for liberation.\n\n\nFree to attend – donations welcomed\, and there will be SPSC merchandise such as t-shirts\, books and other wee items for sale.
