SUMMARY:ABERDEEN Exhibition: Echoes of the Nakba
DESCRIPTION:Duncan Rice Library\, Aberdeen: Open Until Sunday 27th September\nFree and open to all members of the public. Open during all library opening hours. \nVisit ‘Echoes of the Nakba‘ now on display at the Duncan Rice Library until 27 September 2026. \nThis important exhibition addresses the Palestinian Nakba (The Catastrophe) not only as a historical event\, but as contemporary ethnic cleansing and dispossession shaping the Palestinian struggle for justice and liberation. \nA new bilingual Arabic-English display with a case in the ground floor foyer of the Duncan Rice Library explores historic and current links between Aberdeen and Palestine. \nThe Nakba was the mass displacement of Palestinians by the emerging state of Israel in 1948\, an historical event with an enduring social\, cultural and political impact. It began under British rule (1920-1948) and continued after British occupation ended. The Nakba is not only a historical event but a foundational element of Palestinian identity\, shaping collective memory\, political consciousness\, claims to land and justice\, and a sense of loss and belonging across generations. \nThe University of Aberdeen holds items representing Aberdeen’s involvement in Palestine. This display is the outcome of a collaboration between University of Aberdeen academics researching Palestine\, Palestinians in Aberdeen\, and University Collections.
