DESCRIPTION:“(a) loyal Jewish Ulster in a sea of potentially hostile Arabism”\n-Herbert Samuel (1st British Governor of Palestine & UK Home Secretary during 1916) \nThe Palestinian and Irish struggles for liberation from occupation are irrefutably linked\, not just ideologically but politically. Many of the key figures in the creation of the Zionist neocolonial project of Israel had also played prominent roles in the occupation and subjugation of Ireland\, such as Arthur James Balfour\, Herbert Samuel\, and Henry Hugh Tudor\, to name a few. \nThe legacy of the Easter Rising not only dominated 20th-century Ireland\, but its effects are still felt today. The British Government’s decision to employ the internment policy\, which saw thousands of Irish republicans arrested and imprisoned without trial\, set in motion a chain of events that ultimately led to the Irish War of Independence and the partition of Ireland. \nA partition which would result in a decades-long war\, the barbaric treatment of Irish political prisoners\, wrongful convictions\, the dehumanisation of Irish people and the loss of hundreds of civilian lives. All the while\, the British-backed Zionist state of Israel employed the same tactics on Palestinians. \nJoin the Scottish PSC in the Palestine Bloc on Saturday\, 26 April\, as part of Cairde na Héireann’s Easter Rising Commemoration March through Glasgow.
