DESCRIPTION:Erik Helgeson\, Vice-Chair of the Swedish Dockworkers’ Union\nJoin us for a rare opportunity to learn from a high profile International trade union activist\nDockworker and trade union activist Erik Helgeson is coming to Scotland to share lessons from the front line of international labour solidarity! \nAs a leading figure in the Swedish Dockworkers’ Union\, Erik helped organise bold industrial action for Palestine and has became a symbol of workers standing up for their principles in the face of union-busting attacks. \nHe will describe how his employer seized on the action\, using it as a pretext to dismiss him\, the case is now proceeding through the Swedish Labour Courts.  \nAn international fundraising campaign has enabled the union to employ Erik directly allowing him to continue to carry out his responsibilities sending a clear message to the port employers that union-busting will not pay off. \nJoin us for a powerful discussion on how workers can act ethically and strategically on international issues. \nWe will look at worker power\, union democracy\, and what Scottish trade unionists can learn from struggles for Palestine in workplaces across the world – and crucially how we can take action of our own. \nErik is also speaking in Glasgow and in Edinburgh at the Workers Day School for Palestine. \nREGISTER NOW

DESCRIPTION:Imperialism in Palestine and Community Resistance\nA Talk & Discussion with live link to Wassil Centre in Tulkarem (Simultaneous over 3 venues; Edinburgh\, Glasgow\, Aberdeen)\nSPSC and the Young Communist League present a talk and discussion on resistance\, with Palestinians living in Tulkarem joining by live link. \n\nIsraeli aggression and incursion into Tulkarem\, West Bank has intensified since 2023\, culminating in invasion in 2024. IDF brutality has escalated while the world’s attention has been on Gaza\, resulting in a desperate humanitarian situation.\n\n\nInfrastructure in the camp is insufficient to deal with the crisis. There is no hospital within or near Tulkarem camp. Volunteers\, including doctors\, nurses and ordinary residents have established make-shift first aid and rehabilitation rooms with the limited resources they can find. Upon attack\, the very first thing the IDF does is destroy these makeshift facilities and the supplies they have gathered.\n\nPalestinians in Tulkarem have not taken these attacks lying down. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Aberdeen’s inaugural Free Speech on Palestine Lecture\nIn late 2024\, the University of Aberdeen cancelled an event with Mandla Mandela on campus\, based on spurious and unfounded accusations of antisemitism. This was just a small part of a much bigger picture demonstrating that the University was doing all it could to quash voices speaking out against Israeli genocide\, apartheid and occupation. This included the targeting and disciplining of staff and students\, as well as the Palestine Solidarity Society. \nWith the planned event cancelled\, we went ahead and organised an alternative event outside\, on campus\, with around 100 people joining to hear Mandela’s empowering message of solidarity and hope. \nScottish PSC\, in partnership with the Palestine Solidarity Society\, are therefore initiating an annual Free Speech on Palestine lecture\, taking place on University grounds. We are delighted to announce that this year’s guest will be Jackie Walker\, a long-time activist and writer\, who has been targeted for her outspoken campaigning on Palestine\, both by the Labour Party and the University of Aberdeen (who cancelled her event in 2017). DESCRIPTION:Don’t Bank on Apartheid\nThis Saturday we will return to Barclays to demand the bank ends its complicity in the Genocide in Gaza\, and to ask customers to close their accounts and bank elsewhere. \nBarclays Bank is facilitating and profiting from the provision of weapons and technology for Israel’s genocide in Gaza\, its militarised occupation\, apartheid\, repression\, and killing of Palestinians. \nBarclays now holds over £2 billion in shares of eight of the nine companies whose weapons\, components\, and military technology have been used in Israel’s unlawful violence against Palestinians. Barclays also provides over £6.1 billion in loans and underwriting to seven of these companies. \nWe hear that the bank has re-invested in Elbit Systems\, the Israeli company that is the primary provider of the Israeli military’s land-based equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles\, both of which are wreaking such havoc in Gaza and are responsible for the massacres of over 60\,000 people including more than 20\,000 children. This just demonstrates that BARCLAYS CARES MORE ABOUT PROFIT THAN HUMANITY.

The march starts at 11.30am. \nMay Day is a celebration of workers and their families. It’s about the working class struggle for a better life for everyone and occurs every year on the first weekend in May. The Aberdeen Trades Union Council has held an annual May Day March and Rally since 1890! \nJoin our family bloc and march together with lots of other groups to Marischal College with our ‘Aberdeen Kids Say Free Palestine’ banner. \nCreative Protest – outside Marischal College until 1pm\nAt the end of the march we will have creative activities for families during the rally. \n  \nSunday 4th May\nPalestine in the Park – Union Terrace Gardens 1-3pm\nVarious creative activities and games for families to drop in and out\, including drawing\, parachute games and a letter writing workshop for young people. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Screenings and Q&A with director in Glasgow\, Edinburgh\, Perth\, Aberdeen\, Forres and Ardrishaig. \nWelcome to the FIRST PICTURE DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING event. \nThis is a national tour throughout Scotland with the following dates and locations: \n\nFriday\, 18th April @7pm – CCA\, Glasgow.\nWednesday\, 23rd April @ 7pm – St Augustines\, Edinburgh\nThursday\, 24th April @ 7pm – ESOL\, Perth\nTuesday\, 29th April @7pm – Quaker Meeting Hall\, Aberdeen\nWednesday\, 30th April @ 7pm – The Courthroom\, Forres\nTuesday\, 6th May @ 6pm – Ardrishaig Village Hall\, Ardrishaig\n\nPalestinian Prisoner’s Day is marked each year on the 17th of April\, and the situation for prisoners in Israel’s torture jails has never been more urgent\, as we see systematic physical\, sexual & emotional abuse as well as the rising death toll of detainees\, including the first child. \nThis year\, Scottish PSC will screen the documentary ‘First Picture’ (2006) by Akram Al-Ashqar\, who is doing his PhD in film at the University of Glasgow\, at locations across Scotland. Akram will join us for Q&A sessions following the film. \nFirst Picture (2006) tells the story of a Palestinian child born in one of the Israeli Occupations prisons. He is released without his mother after nearly 3 years in prison. Set in Tulkarm Camp for Palestinian refugees\, the film follows this child’s life as he is reunited with the rest of his family and formally imprisoned friends of his mother. \nAt the time of writing\, there are 9500 political prisoners\, including 350 child prisoners. Walid Ahmad was one of those children and was killed in March of this year\, following 6 months of detention without charge. He was just 17 years old. His body\, as is policy of the occupying forces\, has been withheld from his family. \nJoin us as we discuss the film\, the current situation for Palestinian prisoners & what we can do in Scotland to build effective solidarity. \nBook your ticket here \n
