DESCRIPTION:Imperialism in Palestine and Community Resistance\nA Talk & Discussion with live link to Wassil Centre in Tulkarem (Simultaneous over 3 venues; Edinburgh\, Glasgow\, Aberdeen)\nSPSC and the Young Communist League present a talk and discussion on resistance\, with Palestinians living in Tulkarem joining by live link. \n\nIsraeli aggression and incursion into Tulkarem\, West Bank has intensified since 2023\, culminating in invasion in 2024. IDF brutality has escalated while the world’s attention has been on Gaza\, resulting in a desperate humanitarian situation.\n\n\nInfrastructure in the camp is insufficient to deal with the crisis. There is no hospital within or near Tulkarem camp. Volunteers\, including doctors\, nurses and ordinary residents have established make-shift first aid and rehabilitation rooms with the limited resources they can find. Upon attack\, the very first thing the IDF does is destroy these makeshift facilities and the supplies they have gathered.\n\nPalestinians in Tulkarem have not taken these attacks lying down. They have actively resisted Israel’s attempts to displace and ethnically cleanse their homeland.\n\nJoin us to hear direct from the West Bank and help fund raise to keep these first aid rooms open and stocked with supplies.\n\nRegister Edinburgh

DESCRIPTION:Screenings and Q&A with director in Glasgow\, Edinburgh\, Perth\, Aberdeen\, Forres and Ardrishaig. \nWelcome to the FIRST PICTURE DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING event. \nThis is a national tour throughout Scotland with the following dates and locations: \n\nFriday\, 18th April @7pm – CCA\, Glasgow.\nWednesday\, 23rd April @ 7pm – St Augustines\, Edinburgh\nThursday\, 24th April @ 7pm – ESOL\, Perth\nTuesday\, 29th April @7pm – Quaker Meeting Hall\, Aberdeen\nWednesday\, 30th April @ 7pm – The Courthroom\, Forres\nTuesday\, 6th May @ 6pm – Ardrishaig Village Hall\, Ardrishaig\n\nPalestinian Prisoner’s Day is marked each year on the 17th of April\, and the situation for prisoners in Israel’s torture jails has never been more urgent\, as we see systematic physical\, sexual & emotional abuse as well as the rising death toll of detainees\, including the first child. \nThis year\, Scottish PSC will screen the documentary ‘First Picture’ (2006) by Akram Al-Ashqar\, who is doing his PhD in film at the University of Glasgow\, at locations across Scotland. Akram will join us for Q&A sessions following the film. \nFirst Picture (2006) tells the story of a Palestinian child born in one of the Israeli Occupations prisons. He is released without his mother after nearly 3 years in prison. Set in Tulkarm Camp for Palestinian refugees\, the film follows this child’s life as he is reunited with the rest of his family and formally imprisoned friends of his mother. \nAt the time of writing\, there are 9500 political prisoners\, including 350 child prisoners. Walid Ahmad was one of those children and was killed in March of this year\, following 6 months of detention without charge. He was just 17 years old. His body\, as is policy of the occupying forces\, has been withheld from his family. \nJoin us as we discuss the film\, the current situation for Palestinian prisoners & what we can do in Scotland to build effective solidarity. \nBook your ticket here \n
