Re-thinking Palestine Solidarity - Moving forward during the Arab Revolutions
The revolutions in the Arab world are transforming the political landscape across the entire region. For five years SPSC had to fight to win the argument for the centrality of BDS as the key form of solidarity. Now we need to link BDS and our wider activity to an Arab democratic revolution that will spread from the Atlantic to the Euphrates and includes Palestinians.
The Arab revolution for democracy already confronts the US, the EU and Britain as defenders of restructured dictatorship. Palestinians inside Israel, Gaza and the West Bank are already demonstrating for democracy, in solidarity with Egypt and Tunis, are growing in confidence by the day, and confronting Zionist racism as well as repression from both the PA and Hamas.
We have no ready-made manual to steer us through the exhilarating rapids of this revolution. The weekend in New Lanark will be your opportunity to join in a discussion and shape the consensus that will enable us to continue to provide effective solidarity to the Palestinian people.
