Respond to Palestinian workers’ call for international coordinated actions: 20-29 Nov

The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), the largest Palestinian coalition leading the global BDS movement, calls on civil society organisations, trade unions, student unions, and the broader solidarity movement to take action from November 20th to 29th.

In Scotland

We are asking you to respond focusing on three main areas:

  • Drop CAF!
Demand that CAF be removed from the shortlist to provide new trains for ScotRail.
CAF is operating and extending the “Red Line” and is building the new “Green Line.” Both lines connect illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory with West Jerusalem. The JLR network is contingent on the expropriation of Palestinian land and the further territorial fragmentation of the city’s Palestinian neighbourhoods.
  • End Scotland’s Complicity in Energy Apartheid
Help us maximise the impact of the Energy Apartheid campaign.
Israel’s systematic discriminatory and unequal treatment of Palestinians has been described as apartheid by a diverse range of human rights organisations, including Amnesty International. The way that Israel controls and exploits Palestinian energy resources plays a fundamental role in perpetuating this apartheid. Companies based in Scotland are connected to Israel’s energy apartheid.
  • Apartheid Free Zones
Make sure your institution, workplace, union, or organisation becomes an Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ).
The Apartheid Free Zones campaign is a global initiative to transform our local communities into spaces of solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom, equality and justice.

During 20-29 November, wherever you are in Scotland, we can help you organise:

  • leafleting at train stations and town centres to maximise letters to Drop CAF
  • actions in solidarity with the Palestinian people
  • visiting organisations, groups, businesses in your community to invite them to become an Apartheid Free Zone

Workplace Day of Action: Thu 26 November

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) and Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) have endorsed a workplace day of action on Thursday 26 November.

This is an opportunity for all workers to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Here are some ideas about what you can do:

  • Tell your colleagues about the Palestinian workers’ call for action
  • Ask your colleagues to send a letter to the Scottish Government and ScotRail urging them to drop CAF
  • If you have a union in your workplace, ask your branch to hold a lunch-and-learn session about Palestine
  • Organise to have your workplace adopt ethical procurement policies (EPP) and, where applicable, ethical investment policies (EIP) that exclude corporations implicated in grave human rights violations anywhere, including in Palestine
  • Take a photograph inside/outside your workplace with a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people
  • Order copies of our Trade Union Newsletter to share with colleagues

Get in touch to let us know what you’re planning, if you have questions, or if you’d like advice. You can also order stickers, posters, Palestine lanyards or factsheets.
