Napier University EIS motion on Palestine
At the Branch AGM (held on Jan 16th 2009 the following motion was passed unanimously):
Napier University EIS Branch notes:
- Israel’s latest massacres of Palestinians in Gaza
- Desmond Tutu’s description of Israel’s long term treatment of the Palestinian people as an “abomination”
- Ex USA President Jimmy Carter’s description of the Israeli occupation as “apartheid”
- Israeli killings of peaceful demonstrators on the West Bank
- Condemnations of Israeli crimes by the majority of Ministers in the Scottish Government
- UK juries findings that the Israeli Military murdered British citizens Tom Hurndall and James Miller
- The issues of British arrest warrants against Israeli Generals for war crimes
This Branch agrees to:
- Call for an immediate ceasefire
- Publicise widely the conclusion from the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, Jewish-American Professor Richard Falk, that Israel’s “targeting of civilians…represents severe and massive violations of international humanitarian law as defined in the Geneva convention”
- Support the call from the UN General Assembly President for “a campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions” against “apartheid Israel”
- Push vigorously for the cancellation of Eden Springs’ contract with the University
- Send a message of solidarity to the staff of the Islamic University of Gaza recently bombed by Israeli aircraft
- Send a delegation to the upcoming Trade Union Conference on Solidarity with Palestine, sponsored by UNISON International Committee
