Boris Johnson on dress and academic standing

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, Tory Mayor of London and criminal conspirator, added his patrician voice to the numerous attacks on the BDS movement while on a trade mission to Israel, packing as much nonsense, insult and dishonesty into a short effusion as most narcissistic Bullingdon boys are capable of:

“I cannot think of anything more foolish than to say that you want to have any kind of divestments or sanctions or boycott against a country that, when all is said and done,⁽¹⁾ is the only democracy in the region,⁽²⁾ is the only place that has, in my view, pluralist, open⁽³⁾ society – why boycott Israel?

“I think there’s some misunderstanding over here about it. The supporters of this so-called⁽⁴⁾ boycott are really just a bunch of corduroy-jacketed⁽⁵⁾…lefty academics who have no real standing⁽⁶⁾ in the matter and I think are highly unlikely to be influential in Britain.”

Notes:
1. "When all is said and done", i.e. land theft, home demolitions, shooting children, aggression against every neighbouring country, secret nuclear arsenal, rising levels of popular racism against Palestinians and brown- and black-skinned people, apartheid, etc etc.

2. Counter-factual:
Israel discovers that democracy is not an Israeli value
Israel is supposedly the only democracy in the Middle East, yet 4.5 million Palestinians under its control can't vote

4. Why say "so-called"? Whether effective or not - and it is effective - it sounds like Alexander Boris de Pfeffel is somewhat anxious about the boycott.

5. Johnson sneers at university academics' supposed dress code. Maybe corduroy doesn't really convey the arrogance and aloofness from the less privileged that the Bullingdon Club boys were and are at pains to express.

6. Another academic who joined the boycott of Israel and whom Alexander Boris de Pfeffel considers to have "no real standing" and "highly unlikely to be influential"!
