As Scottish workers we can play a key role in supporting our colleagues in Palestine through Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) activity.
The Trade Union movement in Scotland has a policy of supporting BDS, as do individual Unions representing shop workers.
You should not have to dirty your hands by handling Israeli goods or produce, either on the shop floor or in distribution centres, inadvertently assisting genocide!
Boycotts are most effective when workers play a central role. Mary Manning, a shop worker at Dunnes Stores in Dublin, refused to handle the sale of a South African grapefruit in 1984. When suspended for not serving a customer, her colleagues also walked out, remaining on strike for two years & nine months.
This inspirational act of solidarity ultimately led to Ireland becoming the first Western European nation to boycott Apartheid South Africa.
