An article in Today's Herald, Artists and directors call for Edinburgh's Cameo cinema to pull out of 'art-washing' Israeli film festival, refers to a letter in the same edition where "leading figures in theatre and film have called on Edinburgh’s famous Cameo cinema to cancel screenings of a festival they claim is part of an attempt to 'art-wash' the state of Israel. River City actor Tam Dean Burn, director Ken Loach and screenwriter Paul Laverty are among the signatories of a letter asking the cinema to withdraw support from 'Seret, The London Israeli Film & Television Festival (Seret 2018)' which they claim is funded and promoted by the 'apartheid' Israeli State."

1 Israeli SOF Pal sling shot 2It is no 'claim'; the Seret programme identifies the film festival as helping "Israel celebrate her 70th anniversary in 2018...offering audiences a glimpse of the world-leading, innovative, dynamic and passionate film and TV industry in Israel reflecting its social and cultural diversity."

The massacres of Palestinians demonstrating for their human rights, the house demolitions of Palestinian homes, the mass incarceration without trial or following a legal charade, the jailing of poets and children who slap violent soldiers, the ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem are to be veiled by cinematic artifice presenting a facade of 'social and cultural diversity'. As Arye Merkel of the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated: "We will send well-known novelists and writers overseas, theatre companies, exhibits. This way, you show Israel’s prettier face, so we are not thought of purely in the context of war."

Amnesty International has called for an arms embargo on Israel for its massacres of Palestinians
The Scottish Government called for an arms embargo following the 2014 Israeli massacre of 2,200 Palestinians, including 551 children. Still the arms flow to the murderers, the political allies of Israel in the UK and Scottish Governments and in Edinburgh City Council promote a bogus definition of antisemitism to silence critics of the murderous state, Jewish and others alike.

The Palestinian 'David' refuses to be cowed by the Israeli nuclear-armed 'Goliath', even bringing down two of Israel's much vaunted drones yesterday with slingshots, while the UK continues to sell sniper rifles to the Israeli government for its massacres in the full knowledge they will be used to murder Palestinian unarmed demonstrators.

These heroic fighters for their freedom from a savage regime deserve our support and we need to actively support them - both for their sakes and also for our own need to distance ourselves from the barbarians carrying out their bloody crimes, the sniper rifle vendors and their foul allies in Downing Street and across Britain.
