Israeli Embassy cancellation

25 February 2026

The outreach initiative into Scotland by the UK Israeli Embassy in London, scheduled for tomorrow, has been cancelled and "will no longer be going ahead as planned", doubtless out of concern over planned demonstrations inside and outside the pro-genocide event once the secret location was announced.

This invitation by pro-genocide emissaries to meet for a “discussion of current events” is the latest in a series of efforts to operate publicly in Scotland. We see no reason to allow diplomats of the genocide project to meet for a chat in Scotland, and we will continue to act vigorously on the appeal from Palestinian civil society to drive out the genocidal project’s cultural and sporting ambassadors as well as its diplomatic representatives.

We call on others to help us maintain the hard-won result lamented by another Israeli diplomat at the London embassy in 2012: “Every appearance by an official Israeli representative in Scotland is like a visit to enemy territory”.

We must remain vigilant and become better organised. The current Israeli emissaries may try to hold a smaller, secretive meeting with their supporters, but we work with a very strong public opinion in Scotland that is hostile to Israel. We must all defend and expand the current “enemy territory”.

Israel has strong support from Scottish elite institutions — the Crown Office, Police Scotland, much of the media, and corporations, including arms companies — but it is a polecat state in public opinion here, as elsewhere. Labour, the Tories, and the Liberal Democrats have actively endorsed or gone along with the genocide. The Scottish Parliament has voted for BDS, and the Scottish Government has belatedly acknowledged this genocide, but prominent SNP figures such as Angus Robertson, Minister for External Affairs, have a dismal record of pro-Israel advocacy.

While Israel continues its genocide, we have no option but to continue to build solidarity with Palestine, a key component of which is the BDS movement.

Note: The hosts of the Israeli genocide project were to be the latest iteration of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC), a body with a history of co-operating with the Israeli Embassy to smear opponents by conflating opposition to genocide with antisemitism, even going so far as to be caught fabricating antisemitic outrages.
