ISRAEL KILLED YASER MURTAJA AND MANY OTHER JOURNALISTS
On this day in 2018, photojournalist Yaser Murtaja was shot by an Israeli sniper while covering protests of the Great March of Return. He died the following day. Photos by other journalists show Murtaja wearing a bulletproof vest and helmet that were both clearly marked "PRESS". Implying the killing was deliberate, Israeli minister Lieberman said Yaser’s killing was justified because he was on the payroll of the military wing of Hamas. This was untrue; Yaser’s company had been awarded a USAID grant.

(لم يكن هذا صحيحًا ؛ فقد حصلت شركة ياسر على منحة من الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية).
Hosam Salem, a photographer at the scene of the incident, told Al Jazeera on Friday that he witnessed Murtaja drop to the ground after being shot by Israeli forces. "Yaser was filming with his camera next to me when we heard the sound of gunfire," Salem said. "He just fell on the ground and said, 'I've been shot, I've been shot.'"
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said seven other reporters were injured in Friday's protest, in what they described as "deliberate crimes committed by the Israeli army".
Director-general of Reporters Without Borders, Christophe Deloire, said in May 2019 that the Israeli army had
