ISRAELI JEWISH SETTLERS DRIVEN OUT GAZA - SIEGE BEGINS
On this day in 2005, Israel removed its Jewish settlers and redeployed troops to the line of control around Gaza. The UN considers Gaza still occupied by Israel, which maintains direct external control over Gaza and indirect control over life within Gaza. Israel controls Gaza's air and maritime space, and six of Gaza's seven land crossings. It reserves the right to enter Gaza at will with its military. Gaza is dependent on Israel for its water, electricity, telecommunications, and other utilities.
