COST OF US 'WAR ON TERROR'
On this day in 2001, a series of terrorist attacks in the USA resulted in 2,977 deaths, 25,000 injuries and $10 billion in material damage. The Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University calculated in November 2018 the cost of the US response since September 2001, the “global war on terror” in the Middle East and Asia, to be $6.4 trillion and 801,000 lives, excluding “indirect deaths, namely those caused by loss of access to food, water, and/or infrastructure, war-related disease..."

Figures until November 2018, show between 480,000 and 507,000people killed in the United States’post-9/11 wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. This tally of the counts and estimates of direct deaths caused by war violence does not include the more than 500,000 deaths from the war in Syria, raging since 2011, which the US joined in August.. This tally does not include “indirect deaths.” Indirect harm occurs when wars’ destruction leads to long term, “indirect,” consequences for people’s health in war zones, for example because of loss of access to food, water, health facilities, electricity or other infrastructure.
