Three Palestinian women sit on rickety plastic chairs on a pavement in Arab East Jerusalem, their eyes fixed on the house across the road.

Decked out in Israeli flags and covered in Hebrew slogans, the building with six apartments was once the home of Maysoun al-Ghawi and 37 members of her extended family. But one night in August last year Israeli police evicted all of them to make way for a group of nationalist Jewish settlers who claim ownership of the property.
