ABERDEEN: Prisoners Day Film Screening

Join this public event on Friday 17th April to mark Prisoners Day calling for the freedom of 9,600 Palestinian political prisoners in addition to the unknown number of Gaza detainees held in military camps and torture centres run by the occupation. This includes 3,532 ‘administrative detainees’ held without trial or charge.
Prisoners Day has been marked annually since 1974 when prisoner Mahmoud Hijazi was released by the occupation in the first prisoner exchange between the Palestinians and ‘Israel’. It marks Palestinian resistance and the endless capacity of the Palestinians to oppose the occupation. In this vein, we will be screening the film Palestine ’36 by Ammemarie Jacir narrating Palestinian resistance to the British Occupation. We will also hear contributions and first hand reports from former Palestinian political prisoners.
As ever, Palestinian food will be served, in keeping with Palestinian tradition.
