JQ racism case collapses: response from Human Rights Lawyer, Aamer Aanwar

“We welcome today’s judgment which impacts on civil liberties nationally. In a democracy prosecutions must be proportionate. Freedom of expression and the right to protest of course carry responsibilities, but a dangerous precedent would be set if demonstrators were criminalised for racism for protesting against state genocide by Israel or any other country.”

Statement read outside Edinburgh Sheriff Court by Aamer Anwar solicitor on behalf of his client Michael Napier.

All 5 protestors were cleared today of charges of inciting racial hatred under the Public Order act for demonstrating against the Jerusalem Quartet in 2008 (described by their record label as "Distinguished IDF [Israeli Defence Force]) 22 court hearings later.
