UCU Scotland reaffirms support for Professor David Miller

UCU Scotland Executive today passed this motion.

UCUS Executive:

  • Expresses major concern that UCU member David Miller has been sacked by Bristol University following a campaign by pro-Israel lobby groups;
  • Considers Professor Miller’s sacking to be an outrageous breach of academic freedom;
  • Reiterates its commitment to the motion ‘Defend David Miller, defend academic freedom’ passed at UCU Scotland Congress 2021;
  • Believes that this is a politically motivated attack on academics who research, teach and speak out about Palestinian human rights; the Zionist colonisation of Palestine; and the pro-Israel lobby in the UK. The campaign against Professor Miller aims to undermine criticism of the breaches of international law, the human rights abuses and the settler colonial nature of the state of Israel.
