Condemning the crime of 9/11 and remembering the victims

Today marks the anniversary of a monstrous crime: the 1973 British-backed bloodbath launched by the overthrow of the elected government of Chile in a military coup.
 
The Pinochet dictatorship proceeded to kill, torture and exile thousands of citizens over the following 17 years. This was just one of a never-ending series of bloody crimes against populations that disobey the Empire, carried out or supported by Britain.
 
Arming and participating in the ongoing Israeli extermination of Palestinians is the first such crime to have been carried out in full public view on social media. This participation, through military, political and economic support for Israel, continues despite the theatre of the Burnham government's limited measures this week.
 
However, we recall that, whilst the UK Government and establishment supported the dictatorship in Chile, Scottish trade unionists opposed it, and Rolls-Royce East Kilbride workers later played a remarkable role in opposing it.

Their example remains a powerful reminder that solidarity means action, and that workers can refuse to be complicit in oppression.
