Barclays Bank is facilitating and profiting from the provision of weapons and technology for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, its militarised occupation, apartheid, repression, and killing of Palestinians.
Barclays now holds over £2 billion in shares of eight of the nine companies whose weapons, components, and military technology have been used in Israel’s unlawful violence against Palestinians. Barclays also provides over £6.1 billion in loans and underwriting to seven of these companies.
Barclays Bank facilitated South African Apartheid until 1986 when it was forced by the BDS campaign to divest. It had been reluctant to do so, because it was making a killing out of its links to the racist regime. When other financial institutions followed suit, the writing was on the wall, and the Apartheid regime fell. Barclays has clearly not learned anything from its past experience, and must once again be forced to divest from Apartheid and Genocide, this time in relation to its funding of Israel’s Genocidal regime.
