NETANYAHU MARCHES FOR FREE SPEECH
On this day in 2015 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas marched in Paris in support of free speech and against attacks on the journalists working at the satirical publication Charlie Hebdo. Israel has an extensive record of killing, imprisoning and torturing Palestinian journalists. The year before Netanyahu marched for press freedom, Israel had killed 15 journalists, some of them being purposely targeted, according to an authoritative study.

في هذا اليوم من العام 2015م خرج رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنجامين نتنياهوورئيس السلطة الفلسطينية محمود عباس في مسيرة في باريس تأييدا لحرية التعبير وضد الهجمات على الصحفيين العاملين في الصحيفة الساخرة شارلي هيبدو. علما بأن إسرائيل لها سجل طويل من قتل وسجن وتعذيب الصحفيين الفلسطينيين. وقبل سنة من مسيرة نتنياهو من أجل حرية الصحافة، قتلت إسرائيل 15 من الصحفيين، بعضهم تم استهدافهم عن قصد، حسب دراسة موثوقة.

"The commission also noted...direct fire at journalists who claimed that they were clearly identified as press...The council also found that Israel directly shot at journalists who had clearly distinguished themselves as such. When asked whether Israel intentionally shoots children and journalists, Council member Sara Hussein confirmed saying the council believes Israel knew they were children and journalists and shot them nonetheless.
The Committe to Protect Journalists endorsed the UNHRC findings of “reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers shot journalists intentionally.” The CPJ reports Israel has killed 18 journalists since 1992
2019, for example, saw Israel launch a harsh crackdown on journalists in Palestine. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported over 600 violations against Palestinian journalists, including 60 cases of injury as a result of shootings and 170 cases of beatings, detentions and restrictions on reporting.
Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan confirmed the closure of the offices of Palestine TV. He alleged that the TV station had broadcast "anti-Israeli content" in which the country was presented as "responsible for war crimes and ethnic cleansing."
The closure followed the appearance of the channel's news anchors live on air with eye patches, in a show of solidarity with reporter Muath Amarneh, who was hit in the eye by Israeli forces while covering protests near Hebron.
An Israeli sniper murdered a British journalist and film maker, and was then cleared of any wrongdoing by the Israeli army.
