CHRISTIAN ANTI-SEMITES FOR ISRAEL
On this day in 2006, John Hagee set up Christians United for Israel in San Antonio, Texas. CUFI’s theology is intensely anti-Semitic; Hagee has called Hitler “God’s hunter” sent to drive Jews to Palestine to hasten the Second Coming of Jesus. That sits fine with Israel; Hagee did some of the official praying at the moving of the US Embassy to Jerusalem. Ruth Kennedy, who runs the Centre for Scotland/Israel Relations - “Israel’s Scottish office” - is a similar type of Christian Zionist who speaks on CUFI platforms.
The ugly insanity of Christian Zionism
Hagee argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God's behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. Hagee preached: "'And they the hunters should hunt them,' that will be the Jews. 'From every mountain and from every hill and from out of the holes of the rocks.' If that doesn't describe what Hitler did in the holocaust you can't see that. Theodore Herzl is the father of Zionism. He was a Jew who at the turn of the 19th century said, this land is our land, God wants us to live there. So he went to the Jews of Europe and said 'I want you to come and join me in the land of Israel.' So few went that Hertzel went into depression. Those who came founded Israel; those who did not went through the hell of the holocaust. Then god sent a hunter. A hunter is someone with a gun and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter. And the Bible says -- Jeremiah writing -- 'They shall hunt them from every mountain and from every hill and from the holes of the rocks,' meaning there's no place to hide. And that might be offensive to some people but don't let your heart be offended. I didn't write it, Jeremiah wrote it. It was the truth and it is the truth. How did it happen? Because God allowed it to happen."
Under Trump, Islamophobic Pastor John Hagee’s star rose
Hagee’s star first rose alongside that of George W. Bush, the subject of the pastor’s 2000 hagiography, God’s Candidate for America. In late 2017, he met with Trump at the White House for two hours to discuss the proposal to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. “I will not disappoint you,” Trump supposedly told the pastor. In 2014, Hagee blamed Obama for Ebola in West Africa.
In his Earth’s Last Empire: The Final Game of Thrones, Hagee warned that the Antichrist will come disguised as the head of the European Union and that the appearance of four “blood moons” foreshadows the apocalypse.
At the May 14 embassy christening, Hagee said, “Let every Islamic terrorist hear this message: Israel lives." That day, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian protesters, killing dozens and injuring more than 2,000.
