On this day in 2016, Israel’s Supreme Court ruled against two Israeli citizens Eitay Mack and Prof. Yair Auron. The judges agreed that documents should remain sealed concerning Israeli arms exports to Rwanda at the time of the 1994 genocide in that country. Hundreds of thousands of members of the Tutsi minority and dissident Hutus were slaughtered by the regime. Publishing the documents, said the court, would cause “harm to state security and international relations”.

"Israel isn’t just maintaining a brutal military occupation. It’s also supplying weapons to genocidal regimes around the world.

"[For example] In Sri Lanka the State of Israel played a most pivotal role in war crimes and crimes against humanity carried out there: [it] supplied drones which directed planes and warships made in Israel, and these deliberately targeted and bombed civilians and . . . humanitarian sites, and determined the fate of the war at an extremely high human cost. Sri Lankan forces which carried out the crimes had received [Israel Defense Forces] IDF training (especially from the Israeli Air Force and Navy), as well as from the Israeli Police."

Maintaining and expanding an exclusive Jewish state in Palestine requires on-going ethnic cleansing and military repression of Palestinians and military dominance in the region. Through the ongoing colonization of Palestine and the accompanying atrocities, Israel has developed great expertise in repression, and exporting these tools and methods on an industrial scale has become crucial to Israeli economic and political power.

Since the founding of the state, Israel has collaborated with many of the most repressive regimes and forces on all continents. Israel played and/or plays a role in arming and training the apartheid regimes of Southern Africa, colonial and neo-colonial regimes in the Middle East, dictators in Central and South America and police forces in the United States.
