PALESTINIAN CHRISTIANS CONDEMN ZIONISM, CALL FOR BDS
On this day in 2006, a number of Palestinian Christian churches issued the Jerusalem Declaration on Christian Zionism. It rejects Christian Zionism, concluding that it is a "false teaching that corrupts the biblical message of love, justice, and reconciliation." The origins of Christian Zionism substantially predate the Jewish variety. Based on their interpretations of the Christian Bible, many US Christian Zionists condemn Palestinians if they challenge Israel's exclusive right to all of the land.

The origins of Christian Zionism can be traced to the early 19th century when a group of eccentric British Christian leaders began to lobby for Jewish restoration to Palestine as a necessary precondition for the return of Christ. The movement gained traction from the middle of the 19th century when Palestine became strategic to British, French and German colonial interests in the Middle East. Proto-Christian Zionism therefore preceded Jewish Zionism by more than 50 years. Some of Theodore Herzl’s strongest advocates were actually Christian clergy, like Revd William Hechler.
Christian Zionism as a modern theological and political movement embraces the most extreme ideological positions of Zionism. It has become deeply detrimental to a just peace between Palestine and Israel. It propagates a worldview in which the Christian message is reduced to an ideology of empire, colonialism and militarism. In its extreme form, it places an emphasis on apocalyptic events leading to the end of history rather than living Christ’s love and justice today.
The deepest vein of support for Israel in the United States has derived from Christian Zionist organisations. While AIPAC and other so-called establishment organisations delivered millions of dollars in campaign contributions to pro-Israel politicians, the Christian Zionists offered something even more important: tens of millions of votes...
Adherents claim Christ will return only when the world’s Jews are in Israel but that Jews must then be converted to Christianity. Islam is regarded as a hostile religion and all Arabs — Christian or Muslim — are impediments to the return of the Jews to their homeland. Violence is acceptable if carried out in the name of biblical prophecy. In fact, an apocalyptic battle in the Middle East is to be longed for because God will intervene on behalf of Israel.
Younger evangelical Christians in the United States are much less likely to support Israel than their elders, a new survey has found. “Older American evangelicals love Israel – but many younger evangelicals simply don’t care,” according to LifeWay Research, the church-focused firm that conducted the survey.
The national survey of 2,002 adults with evangelical beliefs was conducted on behalf of Chosen People Ministries...“For the most part, younger evangelicals are indifferent about Israel,” according to Scott McConnell, director of LifeWay Research. Four in ten evangelicals aged 18-34 say they have “no strong views” about Israel.
Paula White, Trump's personal spiritual advisor is a Christian Zionist from a megachurch in Florida: “Once again, President Trump has shown the world...Evangelicals are ecstatic, for Israel is to us a sacred place and the Jewish people are our dearest friends.”
