On this day in 2008, the Palestinian resistance blew a large hole in the steel barrier walling in Gaza from Egypt near the Rafah Border Crossing. Tens of thousands of Palestinians overwhelmed violent opposition from Egyptian security police to visit long-separated relatives, and buy life-saving medicines and other necessities of life not available in Gaza. After a week of joyous celebration, Egyptian forces re-sealed the gap in the wall and reaffirmed its commitment to Israel, the US and the EU to maintain the siege.

في هذا اليوم من العام 2008م،قامت المقاومة الفلسطينية بإحداث حفرة ضخمة في جدار الحاجز الفولاذي الذي يفصل غزة عن مصر بالقرب من معبر رفح الحدودي. وقد تغلب عشرات الألاف من الفلسطينيين على مقاومة شرطة الأمن المصرية لكي يتمكنوا من زيارة أقاربهم الذين انفصلوا عنهم لمدة طويلة، وشراء الأدوية المنقذة للحياة والضروريات الأخرى للحياة التي لا تتوفر في غزة. وبعد اسبوع من الاحتفال السعيد، قامت القوات المصرية بإعادة قفل الثغرة في الجدار وأكدت التزامها لإسرائيل والولايات المتحدة والاتحاد الأوروبي بمواصلة الحصار.
