13 May

Resistance generates unity across whole of Palestine
Gaza entry
Today was the third day of heightened Israeli repression and Palestinian resistance. In a later review of the May events, Israeli daily Haaretz reported that in response to the Israeli attacks, the Palestinian resistance
"defied Israeli intelligence assessments and fired six rockets at Jerusalem, the transitional government of Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz responded harshly. The exchange of fire lasted 12 days, during which thousands of rockets were launched at Israel and the air force bombed thousands of targets in Gaza. [The rockets] broke the separation of fronts that the Netanyahu government had pursued."

The rockets "broke the separation of fronts that the Netanyahu government had pursued."  This is Israeli-speak for the efforts of every Israeli government to fracture and divide Palestinians from each other physically and politically. The crisis engulfed the whole of Palestine and the Palestinian resistance, notes the hostile commentator
"increased support for Hamas among Israeli Arabs and West Bank Palestinians. Hamas remaining on its feet when the fighting ended...the picture of Sinwar returning to his chair in his destroyed headquarters after the cease-fire" sent a message that "It doesn’t matter what Israel does, Hamas is right to continue fighting. The Palestinian public, and the Israeli public to some degree, accepted this narrative".
Following Israeli police attacks on Muslim worshippers in the Al Aqsa Mosque, wounding 300, widespread protests and riots intensified across Israel, particularly in cities with a large Arab population. The police attacks accompanied the annual Jerusalem Day march by religious extremists that often call for Al Aqsa to be burned down. A widely circulated video showed a raging fire on the Al-Aqsa mosque, while below a packed group of Jewish Israelis chanted what the Guardian called 'genocidal songs of vengeance'.
The 13-story residential Hanadi Tower in Gaza was destroyed by an Israeli airstrike.  The tower housed a mix of residential apartments and commercial offices. This strike and the general intense Israeli bombardment of the Gaza strip targetted what Israel claimed were Hamas facilties.  A resistance unit fired an anti-tank guided missile fired from the northern Gaza Strip struck a military jeep inside Israel, killing a soldier from the Nahal Infantry Brigade that was enforcing the siege of Gaza

13 May Nakba and Protests NoticeOn This Day was suspended to make way for:

NOTICE of protests across Scotland...

The apartheid state of Israel has escalated their violence against the Palestinian people - Palestinians are calling on us to protest, to demonstrate our solidarity and to take action. As they continue to resist Israel's ongoing programme of ethnic cleansing, on Saturday (Nakba Day) Palestinians will also commemorate 73 years since the Nakba - when almost 1 million Palestinians were expelled from their homes, hundreds of villages were destroyed and hundreds massacred by Zionist militias - the catastrophe that led to the founding of the apartheid state of Israel.

We urge you to participate in a protest or commemoration near you, organised by various solidarity and campaign groups - see event page/further info for details.
