ISRAELIS IMPEDE EFFORTS TO PUT OUT AL AQSA FIRE
On this day in 1969, Christian fundamentalist, Dennis Michael Rohan, set fire to Al-Aqsa Mosque. Palestinians who rushed to the scene found water hoses had been cut and the pumps broken. The Israeli occupation forces prevented fire trucks from nearby Ramallah and Bethlehem from reaching the fire, claiming that it was the sole responsibility of the Jerusalem Municipality to deal with the fire, which burned for hours before it was finally extinguished. Rohan said he set the fire to hasten the second coming of Jesus Christ.
