ISRAEL'S "DEMOCRATIC" CONTEST - WHO KILLED MOST PALESTINIANS
On this day in 2019, the anniversary of the Deir Yasin massacre, Israeli voters went to the polls. The US Jewish weekly Forward noted that the “campaign ads seem to be competing over which candidate has killed the most Palestinians”. The moderate Benny Gantz ran a video promotion boasting of his having pushed Gaza "back to a stone age" when he was Chief of Staff of the Israeli military. His election video asked for votes by showing images of Palestinian funerals and a counter in the corner for rising Palestinian deaths.

"A disturbing new trend has emerged in the political ads of the Israeli elections. Campaign ads seem to be competing over which candidate has killed the most Palestinians. These ads are horrifying. But they also tell us a lot about what — and who — is at stake in the current elections.
"The election campaign materials, particularly the ones glorifying killing and destruction, tell us that this election, like others in the recent past, will be waged within the right-wing bloc over the votes of right-wingers, and the are predicated on the belief that Israeli right-wing and even centrist voters do not feel empathy toward Palestinians. And in an effort to stave off accusations of being “leftists,” the Israeli Center is increasingly adopting violent rhetoric."
The right wing Telegraph reports
"A former Israeli general running for prime minister allegedly used stolen Palestinian footage for a series of campaign ads in which he boasted of sending parts of Gaza “back to the Stone Age” during the 2014 war.
"Benny Gantz was the head of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) during the 2014 conflict but has now entered politics and is running against Benjamin Netanyahu in April's elections.
"The 59-year-old has said little about his political positions so far but released a series of videos burnishing his military credentials. One boasts of killing 1,364 Palestinian terrorists during the war, while another says that under Mr Gantz’s command “parts of Gaza were sent back to the Stone Age.”
The videos make no mention of the 1,462 civilians killed during the conflict, according to a UN count.
